Why I do the Way I Do: Rates

I’ve seen all kinds of discussions, angry posts and speculations online about rates. Clients are mad because the rates they see are too high, and so are the ladies because they get clients who complain and try to negotiate. Apparently, some men see this as some form of sport, to “talk them down” out of the ladies’ rates. Sport? Boy.. they have way too much time on their hand.. they need to get a real “hobby”.

This business is all about personal choice. The fact I’m in it is my personal choice to begin with, and the way I do things are just a series of personal decisions and preference. I don’t think in terms of what I’m worth, or whether I’m worth more than some ladies, or less than others. I set my rates at where I’m comfortable offering my service, and I simply wouldn’t do it otherwise. They may not be cheap, but definitely far from being the highest. I hear about how others charge less, but honestly, I’m not really trying to compete. I simply will not be comfortable working for less, and trust me, if I’m not happy, you will not be either. This is all about comfort. This is a very personal type of work I do, and I only choose to do it in certain ways that makes me feel comfortable. Obviously, the men who choose to see me appreciate and value who I am and what I do, while others simply choose another provider.

Rates also act as a way of controlling volume and quality, to some degree. The men I see are gentlemen for the most part and take care of themselves. My minimum rate used to be a bit lower at one hour. I used to get quite a few spur of the moment requests in the middle of the night for the minimum one hour. When I was considering of raising my rates, I thought about how I go about it. I didn’t really want to raise the whole thing, as I was comfortable for the most part. In the end, I raised my minimum time therefore raising the minimum rate, but keeping the rest the same. However, by doing so, it seemed to cut down on undesirable traffic and casual shoppers by far.

I don’t get a lot of guys who haggle and complain about my rates. Whatever I’m doing must be working, because I don’t seem to attract this type of crowd. But if I do, I don’t deal with them. I know I’m never going to see them, and it’s just not worth spending my energy.

So why don’t I charge more? Become one of those, X000 minimum HDH’s? I have no idea how things are in those range. Maybe one of these days, I’ll find out.
