Secret Diary of a Call Girl

Some people have been talking about this new show Secret Diary of a Call Girl, which was imported from UK.  Some of you may have seen it, and some of you may also know this show is based on a book which I believe is based on a blog.. anyway, it’s by an anonymous escort in London.  I don’t know how much of it is real and how much of it was made up for the show.  There’s definitely some truth to it, and the others are stylized and glamorized for TV.  Here’s some of my thoughts.

She wakes up with an alarm clock.  I don’t.  That’s the beauty of being in this business.  I don’t need to be forced to wake up with an alarm at certain time every morning, I hate that.  Of course, I do use my radio clock when I have the need for it.

“I wasn’t abused by a relative, I’ve got no children to support, and I’ve never been addicted to anything.”
Same here.  I’m a pretty healthy, normal person who happens to be a little bold and brave enough to take advantage of what I can.

“I’m VERY high class, which means I charge by the hour. And I charge A LOT.”
“Very high class” don’t even have an hourly rate.  Their minimum would start at $5000 for 3 hours, then go up by several hour increments.

“So why do I do it?  Well, I like sex, and I like money”
Agree there on both.

“What I really like is being my own boss.  Well pretty much my own boss.  Obviously I have an agent.”
I love being my own boss, which for me includes working on my own.  I’ve never worked for an agency, and I wouldn’t want to.  Why?  First of all, I’d never trust anybody to screen my clients, if, agency screens at all.  Assuming they do, I’d still want to communicate directly with my potential clients.  There are so many subtle things I get from communicating with them.  Most importantly, working for an agency defeats the purpose of being my own boss.  As soon as I have to be told to go somewhere at certain time, I no longer feel like I’m doing it for myself.

“Hannah, Belle, and never the twain shall meet.”
So she’s got separate phones for personal and work.  That’s a must.  She has her living space and working space, and that’s a must too.  But I don’t know if I’d want a work space within my living space.  She even has a separate set of clothing for personal and work.  I don’t go that far.  I have clothes I bought with work in mind, but it’s not like I’d never wear them for personal.  I do have outfits I’ve used for photo shoots and hardly worn them for real.

“He’s on his way over now.”
This would never happen to me.  The whole reason I wouldn’t work for an agency.  I would hate that.

“I spend half my life removing hair and maintaining my body.”
There’s some truth there as well.  It’s like how models and actors need to maintain their looks so they can go to auditions at any given moment and book the job.

Nonetheless, the show’s interesting to me, being in this business.  I’ve already watched all first season episodes on the web so I’ll be looking for the next season.  I understand prostitution is legal in UK, yet their escorts seem to stay discreet, that’s interesting.  I imagine they still have moral and social issues similar to how it is here.

  1. I saw the show a few months back, after speaking with a few ladies everyone seems to agree with you.

It’s accurate in some regards, but has been “done up” for tv. However it is nice to see a tv show about escorts which doesn’t totally paint them as street walkers, abused kids or asian slaves.

There is also another series based on an Australian agency, I forget the name at the moment though.
