Happy Holidays!

‘Tis the season. In Japan, traditionally we don’t celebrate Christmas, or Thanksgiving. We do get into the festivity of Christmas however, especially commercially. We would see Christmas sales, year end sales, and Christmas decorations. I do remember as a kid we used to have a Christmas tree but it was pretty small and artificial one, lol, and even finding gifts at my pillow when I wake up in the morning on Christmas day (see, a lot of the festivities do get exported over there, but not quite to the T – they don’t know to place the gifts under the tree). These were only when I was a kid though, and it somehow disappeared as I got older. Christmas is not a national holiday either, so they work – and then they take about a week off around the New Year’s. New Year’s is the biggest holiday in Japan. When I came to the US, it took me a little while to get used to the non-activeness of the New Year’s in this country, or should I say, here in LA.

One of the times I went back to Japan, I flew back to LA on New Year’s eve. I think my flight left Osaka sometime in the afternoon, and because of flying over several time zones, apparently the midnight hit while on the flight, whatever time zone we were under at that time. They did a mini New Year’s celebration on the plane, and when I landed in LA, it was still the New Year’s eve in the morning. So I went out that night for a New Year’s party.

Speaking of going out, if you have a cold, don’t take Sudafed severe cold formula and drink at the same time. I found this out the hard way. This was on another New Year’s eve. I had a cold but I wanted to go out and have a good time, so I took the medicine and had a few drinks that night. Everything was fine, till the next morning when I woke up and went to the bathroom. I got dizzy and things started to fade, next thing I know I’m lying on the floor. Yup I fainted. No harm done really, I was fine. Except for breaking the glass on the bath tub door that I apparently hit my head against when I fell down. The good thing was that I had a towel hanging over the part I hit, so I didn’t hurt myself.

This winter, so far I’m sick free. Maybe something to do with the flu shot I took a couple of month ago, and taking Airborne religiously every time I start feeling iffy. If you missed my post about the flu shot, I have a link to flu shot locations! Check it out and stay healthy. Have a merry Christmas, and a great New Year!
